How to make an anvil in Minecraft
Anvil in Minecraft are tools that are used to repair the durability of items and even enchant them. However, they are also a little more complicated to build compared to other tools such as workbenches, furnaces, and chests.
In the case of anvils, you will need 3 iron blocks (each of which is made up of a combination of 9 bars) and 4 loose iron bars. So, in total, you need 31 iron bars to become a great blacksmith in Minecraft. In other words, you need to “mine” a little and also find a lot of coal. In this article, see how to make an anvil in Minecraft!
What items make the anvil in Minecraft?
Before you start building, these are some items and blocks you will need to collect to craft an anvil:
- Blocks: 20 wooden and 15 stone;
- Tools: workbench and furnace;
- Items: pickaxe, sword and torch;
- Ores: 20 units of coal and 31 raw iron (found in caves and mountains).
How to make an anvil in Minecraft
- Collect 4 wooden blocks to create a workbench (also known as a “Crafting table” in English);
- Opening the workbench, use 2 wooden blocks to create sticks and combine them with 3 more wooden blocks to assemble a pickaxe;
- Use the wooden pickaxe to collect several stone blocks. You will need 8 to make the furnace and 3 to make a stone pickaxe;
- Combine 2 sticks and 3 stone blocks to build a stone pickaxe;
- Then, use 8 stone blocks to build a furnace;
- Once this is done, with the stone pickaxe you can collect iron ore in mountains and caves. When broken, they give a unit of raw iron, so you need to burn them in the furnace to make them iron bars;
- Then you just need to collect 31 iron bars. With 27 bars you can build 3 iron blocks and the remaining 4 bars will be part of the anvil design;
- Once everything is ok, just place the anvil on the ground.
How the anvil works in Minecraft
Using ores and experience points, you can repair and enchant your items in the Minecraft anvil, such as your armor, improve tools, and even enchant your sword! In the case of repairs, you can make them using experience points and ores corresponding to your item’s materials. As for enchantments, you need to have an enchanting book and some experience points. You can get experience points by collecting ores, fighting monsters, and drinking experience potions. With these tips, it becomes easier to build and use an anvil in Minecraft.
Information about the Anvil
- Anvils are mainly used to repair items. You just need to combine the item with low durability with materials used in your craft. Each material recovers 25% of the item’s maximum durability.
- Anvils are also used to rename items.
- With each use, Anvils have a 12% chance of taking damage. If this happens 3 times, the Anvil is destroyed.
- On average, an Anvil lasts 25 uses.
- Only identical Anvil (with the same damage level) can be accumulated in the inventory.
How to repair with an anvil

- Step 2: Place the item that needs repair in the left box.
- Step 3: Place an identical item or base ingredient in the center box.
- Step 4: Drag the fixed item to your inventory.
- Step 5: Repeat the procedure as many times as necessary, until your Objective reaches full durability.

Uses of Anvil
The anvil can be used to repair equipment in different ways. It is possible to place two identical items, such as two armor chest pieces, and turn them into one with a combined wear bar between the two. There is also the possibility of repairing a weapon, tool or armor by combining it with more of its material – for example, an Iron Pickaxe with Iron Bars. It is worth mentioning that there is a certain cost in experience points to make repairs and, normally, it is not worth repairing a common tool.
The anvil’s greatest use is its ability to deal with enchanted weapons and armor. Thus, the player can repair a good enchanted tool, or even combine weapons with different enchantments into a single item that brings together all these enchantments.
